Joint Pain relief – Sandhi Mudra

Joint Mudra is a sacred hand gesture or ‘seal,’ used to balance energy in the joints. Energetic blockages at the joints can lead to pain or disorders, such as arthritis. This mudra clears pathways so that energy can flow freely. Joint Mudra can help to ease the symptoms of any kind of problem with the joints, particularly when practiced alongside gentle yoga asana.

How to perform :

  1. This mudra is performed differently with both hands.
  2. Right Hand: Join tips of Ring Finger and Thumb together.
  3. Left Hand: Join tips of Middle Finger and Thumb together.
  4. Place the palms, face-up, on your knees or thighs.
  5. Keep your spine and head straight, shoulders relaxed.
  • Right hand: Prithvi Mudra
  • Left hand: Akash Mudra.
  • Sandhi means joints.

Benefits of Sandhi Mudra:

  • This mudra helps in balancing energy in the joints.
  • Useful for painful joints anywhere in the body.
  • Space is balanced between the cartilage and the joint muscles.
  • Can be helpful in the following pains :
      ▪ Pain experienced while climbing down after a long hike or climbing down the stairs.
      ▪ Pain in the shoulder joints.
      ▪ Painful ankles or wrists
      ▪ Pain in Hip joints or Knee joints due to Arthritis
      ▪ Tiredness in elbows after long hours of computer work
  • People who sit in one position for a long period of time, such as office workers who have to sit on a chair all day long, or people who have to stand for long periods should perform this mudra daily for 15 minutes 3-4 times a day.
  • For chronic pain in the joints, practice this mudra regularly.
